Cambodia in the World
In the mean time, Cambodia and neighboring countries such as Thailand,
Vietnam and Laos are exchanging visits between leading diplomatic figures to
emphasize better relationship.
Since July of last year, Cambodia became an observer of the Association
of South East Asian Nations. (ASEAN) On top of that, their hope is to become an
official member of ASEAN. Additionally, Cambodia is running for membership of the
Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council.
In the past, Cambodia's and Thailand's situation were becoming strained
because of the argument for Thailand to support Pol Pot Party.
However, when the Second Prime Minister, Samdech Hun Sen visited
Thailand in March of 1995, both countries agreed to solve the misunderstandings
between the countries through diplomacy.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Kaseam visited Cambodia
in September. 1995, during which there was a meeting about national borders and
economic waters( an economic zone).
His majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk Varman visited
Laos from December 7th of 1995 to the 10th , and Vietnam from the 14th to
the 16th.
This occasion was especially for showing His Majesty' s appreciation to
the Chairperson of Vietnam.
However, this occasion was a chance for Vietnam and King Sihanouk's
feeling of discontent and unrest to be dispelled ( that is to say the end of the
Indonesian dispute).
Furthermore, looking at Cambodian relationship to neighboring countries,
International organizations and Western countries contributed over 2 billion dallers
in 1992.
Moreover, after the Cambodian New Investment Law was proclaimed in
August 1994, investment from overseas has been increasing smoothly.
The Cambodian Government is predicting economic growth of 6.7%.
